Religion to me
Religion is a tricky topic for many people. A topic that many people avoid as it can start drama that people (like myself) want no part of. As a female who has had religion in my life since I was born, it's a topic that I always struggle with. Especially when people bluntly ask for my opinion on religion and what religion I follow.
Growing up, I was born into a Catholic family with both my mother and father born into the religion as well. I was baptised at only a few days old followed by a catholic education in both Primary and Secondary schooling. So, it's easy to say that religion has literally been apart of my whole life. While my family isn't the type that goes to church every week and studies the bible. We definitely follow the morals and ethics of what is considered to be a 'good' catholic family.
Growing up, religion was something that always (TBH) bored me. I found sitting in church for an hour or listening to a teacher carry on about bible teaching to be very monotoned and honestly always thought that my time could be put to much better use.
To me religion is an extremely personal thing. It's no 'paint by numbers' format to follow. My relationship with God and with my religion is extremely personal and it's ever-changing and growing. I like to call myself a 'pick and choose' catholic. While I am a catholic, I am FOR same-sex marriage, I am Pro-choice when it comes to abortion and I have absolutely no problems with swearing, alcohol, divorce and pre-marital sex. To me, religion isn't just, "here's a book, now follow it and life will just fall into place". Just like life, it's complex. No one, and I mean no one can tell you about your relationship with your religion. It's not their place and TBH it's none of their business.
