Here I am. Back in Sydney conveying some post Greece blues as I (of course) am missing my first location abroad other that my quick stops to little brother New Zealand.
Greece was amazing and an experience that I never could have dreamed up. Is it my new favourite place? Absolutely! Greece as a whole though? No.
Athens is a great starting block for a European getaway, but in all honesty; one day in Athens is more than enough. It's the islands where the fun and Instagram opportunities are had. It's not that I didn't enjoy Athens; truly I did, but compared to the other three islands I visited, there's just no comparison.
TBH, Athens is the place you go to too tick off the bucket list. I'll never have to go there again because there's nothing more for me to see or enjoy. Never the less, I had a great time the three days that I was there!
Day one was the classic tourist day. I had my iPhone and selfie stick ready to go. At first I was a bit ugh... self conscious as I didn't want to be that dipshit with a selfie stick but what you soon realise is that everyone is a tourist; therefore everyone is an dipshit with a selfie stick furthermore, you don't feel so bad. I hit up the Parthenon, Acropolis, Plaka, the Flea Markets; pretty much the whole central location of Greece. A lot of walking was done clocking in over 25,000 steps in a day. I was so tired that I went back to the hotel and went to bed at 7.30pm. I haven't done that sense I was 12.
Day two, I hit up all the places that I couldn't find in day one. Parliament, the National Garden. It was also just a great day to go for a wonder and see what I could discover around Athens that I probably wouldn't find on google maps. Later that night I met up with my contiki group, (who all were the bombdiggity.com)
In summary, Athens; your the appetiser to what sure is a great meal!
