Oliver Brown. From the outside it appears as a quaint, moodly lit restaurant serving up chocolate delights. But when you walk in, you see that the offerings are a whole lot more. Unfortunately, more doesn't always necessarily mean good.

Trying out the new local restaurant in my area with a friend,  I wanted to give their lunch menu a go and being the basic white girl that I am, I had to order something that involved Avocado. This wasn't your usual smashed avo dish though. Instead of the common rye or sourdough bread, the base of this common brunch meal was (drumroll please); a chocolate chip waffle....WTF?

Presented beautifully when placed right in front of me, the instagramability of this, lack of a better word, weird dish was quite high. To be honest I didn't even realise that the crunchy waffle had little chocolate chips inside which served as quite a surprise as you can imagine.

You cut through the sweet waffle and pile high the savoury ingredients of avocado, cherry tomato and of course, it's not an Aussie brunch without a pouched egg. You consume and you chew and in your mind and your tastebuds, you don't know how to process or enjoy these combinations of flavours. There's a reason for this though; you can't understand these flavours because they're not meant for each other.

Sorry, but a chocolate chip waffle served with your go-to Aussie brunch dish just aren't meant to go together. Sometimes it's best to just stick to what you know. Oliver brown, stick to serving up chocolate. It's what you do best.
