A festive pub crawl for charity
December, for many people means the gathering of friends and family to exchange gifts and to eat an obscene amount of food. While this still applies here in Australia, there's a new tradition starting to gain traction, solely for the 18 and overs; The Santa Claus Pub Crawl.
If you live overseas, I know what you must be thinking; WTF?! How can Australians turn this seemingly family friendly holiday into an excuse to drink an abundance of alcohol? Well, take a seat as I tell you why this is the best way to celebrate Christmas. Picture this. You gather all your mates, take a trip down the coast, join a few thousand other festive drinkers, dress up in your best holiday themed attire, run into some old friends and then you dance and drink the night away. Doesn't that sound awesome?! Best thing about this though? This pub crawl with a seemingly obvious 'cool factor' try's to distract us from the fact that this is all an effort to raise money for charity. Drinking for a good cause? I am more than happy to oblige.
The Salvation Army is a well respected charity known for its good will and it's hard work in assisting the homeless and those less fortunate than others. At last years pub crawl, this even raised over $100,000. Cheers to that!
